Weight Gain in Pregnancy

Weight Gain in Pregnancy

There is a two-fold link between overweight or obesity and a difficulty getting pregnant.  First, women who are overweight and obese frequently have ovulation cycles that are abnormal or even non-existent.  Ovulation is when a woman’s fertility capacity is replenished and renewed.  Extreme over-weight and obesity contributes to hormonal imbalances which, in turn, prevents optimum capacity for fertility to begin, so pregnancy is not just difficult but impossible.  Secondly, a woman who is considerably overweight or obese oftentimes just does not possess the good health needed for the conception process to take place; conception occurs more easily in women who are younger and in good overall health.

The more overweight a woman is pre-pregnancy, the higher the weight gain during pregnancy----and quickly!  The more overweight a woman is during pregnancy, greater is the risk of complications such as high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and fluid retention, to name a few, and the harder it is for weight loss after pregnancy.

At Weight*No*More Diet CenterSM, we work with overweight women who are trying to conceive, overweight pregnant woman who run the risk of complications for herself and her fetus, as well as overweight nursing moms.  These women have different circumstances, but the goal is the same:  to lose weight in a healthy, balanced way from each of the food groups from the foods they buy in the supermarket.  As we do with all our clients, we work with women in these categories privately to generate customized eating plans, including what to eat, how much to eat, and what time to eat, as well as provide cooking tips and recipes.  We provide the discipline, structure, guidance and accountability … the ingredients for success.
