Prom Pressure?
The high school prom can be one of the most important events in your high school experience — a special night to look forward to for months beforehand. For some people, though, prom is just another reason to worry and feel stressed out. Even if you’re looking forward to it you might feel nervous and anxious not being asked to the prom; or about having enough money to buy the perfect dress or tuxedo … and then there’s the BIG ONE …. your looks … you’re overweight, you think you’ll be uncomfortable; you worry about whether you’ll find something decent to wear in your size. Do think ahead----everyone can benefit from exercise and healthy eating habits a few weeks before prom night. Don’t diet—that’s not the way to go. While it’s a good thing to let prom night be an event that motivates you to start changing bad eating habits, it’s a bad thing to do last-minute crash diets. People who resort to those are oftentimes left feeling weak, cranky, and not in the mood for fun. Weight loss through crash diets is mostly water weight; you’ll gain the weight right back after the prom. Since it’s almost impossible to lose more than a couple of pounds of body fat per week, start your healthy eating program as soon as you can. Not only will you lose 1 or 2 pounds a week leading to the prom, but you’ll have the confidence you need to keep on going through all the summer fun, a time when you want to feel and look great. What’s more … think of how happy you will be when you head off to college in the fall! There are still a few months before prom and you could be down 2 sizes by then!
